Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson appeared on Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour today and discussed his future plans in the wake of losing his second Title bout against Tyron Woodley.
“I think me and Robbie Lawler would be an awesome fight! what do you think… Hey man, let’s get this thing going.”
Stylistically speaking, this is a perfect fight to come back to after what many considered to be a “boring” fight against Tyron Woodley. Whether you found it to be dull and uneventful or a riveting chess match, all can agree that it wasn’t active. It seems after that performance, two guys that want to keep the fight standing and sling leather is exactly what the fans want to see. Stephen Thompson is eager to deliver just that. He emphasized that Lawler is “Not afraid to go out there and let it fly”.
Thompson stated on fighting Lawler, “I was throwing that name out there to my management and they’re cool with it… I know they were looking to contact his management. I don’t know if thats been done yet, but hey it’s a possibility”
Lawler has remained inactive since losing his belt at UFC 201 on July 30, 2016. Lawler lost by first round KO to current Welterweight Champ: Tyron Woodley.
